I’m baaaaack!!!!!

Well the semester is finally over, so I am officially back on the blogging train! Mainly been chillin’ and workin on gettin Jaunty Jackalope (Ubuntu 9.04) up and running on my laptop and desktop.

Now, not that I’m a complete American Idol (AI) fan – but I do find aspects of the show fascinating (like how wacky Paula can act and no one will blink an eye…but I digress), but I was very surprised to find that the dude who won was a worship leader. Check out this video of him leading “God of this City” (written by Chris Tomlin) my wife tracked down online:

It’ll definitely be very interesting to see what he does after his obligatory “year of service” to the AI machine…

Another Why Linux is better story…

Okay, most who know me, know I am a little bit of a linux fan (just a leeeeetle…;-). My linux blog is evidence enough of that. I try not to annoy people too much by going on about how much linux is better than Windows or OSX (apple’s OS).

Well, I came across this two-part story about how a linux user converted his dad to linux. What I think is interesting or unique about this article is that the author specifically pinpoints Vista as the operating system that actually drive him to hook his father up with Ubuntu.

I think this is an excellent example of a good reason to switch – for the specific reasons one needs to use a computer. If those needs will run better and more effectively and efficiently in Linux, then there is a very compelling reason to at least try Linux out.

** Disclaimer: Linux and Ubuntu are not the same. Ubuntu is a Linux distribution (or version of linux) that I have found to be very easy and intuitive to use.

Computer Fun

Well, I think this is pretty much an illustration of how much of a nerd I am. This weekend I installed a fresh copy of the latest version of Ubuntu on both my laptop and desktop. I know I’ve talked about this before, but if you’re even slightly interested, you can actually install it on your computer from within Windows to try it out. I’ve been detailing everything I’ve done to get my computers up and running in Ubuntu on my Linux blog.

As far asthe operating system itself, I definitely think this is the best release yet (Intrepid Ibex 8.10). I also love the new Darkroom theme. I’ve tweaked it a little with Emerald, but I just love the darker theme much more than the classic gnome look. It still is an area where Ubuntu could use a little more help – I still think Kubuntu (KDE-based version) has the best looking menus and buttons.

My wife would kill me

Luckily, I’m not crazy enough to try.

“What?” you may ask.

Some couple named their child ‘Linux’. Seriously.

Read about it if you doubt me.

Honestly, I do greatly enjoy my operating system based off Linux (Ubuntu, if you must know), but name my child after it? That’s a little too much.

And anyways, my wife would kill me. This I know.
