I’m the worst blogger ever…and my son drop-kicked me….

Okay, it’s official. I’m probably one of the worst bloggers ever. School started and I stopped posting. Just stopped. Kinda a time issue….more a, wow-I-don’t-want-to-think issue. If I can manage it, I will try to post here randomly, but don’t get your hopes up. It looks like my schoolwork is going to require a pretty steady amount of attention this semester.

Ah well.

But all of you who are gravely disappointed in me at this time can feel reassured. My son drop-kicked me in the face. Really. He was excited about my parents coming in this weekend and started jumping around. Me? I was lying harmlessly on the floor, resting while I chatted with my dad (thinking my boys would crawl over and around me as usual). Keaton allowed his excitement to bounce over to the couch, up in the air….and then I was curled up on my side, holding my eye, while my (now-bent) glasses sported a fresh HEEL PRINT on the right lense.

I don’t think the drop-kick had anything to do with my lax posting as of late…but know tha t I have been punished according to the blogger’s code….

Son – where’s my belt?

No, Keaton wasn’t in trouble. Not exactly. When I got home last thursday I had changed into some shorts. That required me to remove my belt, which I put on a shelf in the exact same spot I always do. Keaton found the belt fascinating and picked it up.

“Keaton, let’s not play with that. Can you put it back for me?”

So he nods a cute little yes and I finish changing.

I wake up the next morning and…where was my belt?

I couldn’t find it anywhere!

As I finished getting ready for work after breakfast, Keaton watched an educational cartoon in the bedroom. I asked him, “Where did you put my belt.”

He looks at me, shakes his head, “No.”

Not good.

So I go to work without my belt.

(Terra actually got him to help her find it later – the little traitor…apparently he can’t help daddy…)
When Terra looks for it later, Keaton actually helps her (the little

My ‘lil Pirate

We were just chillin’ at home today, enjoying the boys inside when Keaton started asking to be a pirate. Apparently Terra had been putting a bandanna on his head and telling him that made him a pirate. So out came the bandanna as well as the foam swords. And then emerged what I call the “Berserker Pirate style” of swordfighting:

As is quite obvious, he was on the path to losing his right to play with the sword for the day. After much wailing (and a wee bit ‘o discipline) his rather nutty side asserted itself. Somehow the Bandanna got turned around and he started bouncing around the living room…quite literally:

Quite a crazy little pirate, huh?

my wonderfully creative son…plays games his own way…

Tonight at small group Terra and I had childcare. Fun times. It’s always interesting trying to keep kids entertained for long periods of time. Luckily for us the house we meet at has a great little backyard to go out and play in. So out we went, running around and doing different games and stuff. I enjoyed my son’s “version” of everything. He’s just two years old and has his own little perspective on the world.

I was singing “Father Abraham” with a few of the older children, and he started prancing around, waving his sands half yelling, half singing “Sons! Sons!” while he waved his arms around. Terra and Erica (another adult helping us with childcare) found it highly hilarious.

But my favorite was his take on Monkey in the Middle. Erica had taken over to give me a break, and so she had all the kids out in the yard and was attempting a sort of “group” version of monkey in the middle, with most of the kids not quite clear on whether they were getting the ball or not – so they were all going for it. But the ball gets thrown to Keaton, and he snags it, turns and runs away…and launches the ball into the bushes. Apparently his version of “Keep Away” is him versus the world!

My little helper strikes again

We had some friends give us a dining table and chairs (thanks Greg and Nicole!), but I had to take down our old table before I could put our “new” one up. Of course Keaton absolutely LOVED my tools and when I laid out my little snazzy toolset he hauled it all over the house. He also enjoyed my little wrench. I actually got him to help me unscrew the supports on the old table. He actually did a good job…until he finished off one of the suppots and it decided to rest momentarily on his forehead. He was more surprised than hurt, but he was back in the game in no time. Here are a few pics of him working away:

Our Thanksgiving Day

Well, thought I’d share what we did today – and, of course, include a few pictures (because I know that’s all you really care about…).

We started the day off with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But Keaton thought it would be good to make sure every one of his toys were out for him to play with:

Of course, he played with about three of them before starting to bring out books to read. That was fun. Eventually it got to be snack time and Keaton hauled his chair in front of the couch.

Shortly thereafter Terra and I decided we should try and finish off some of the cookie dough hanging out in the fridge. Keaton “helped”, though it quickly deteriorated to him squashing cookies in his hand and then stealing bits to eat. He never did get to enjoy the cookies because he wouldn’t eat his lunch.

After a nap to help with his mood, Keaton ate enough lunch to get mom’s approval for a teething biscuit. After lunch the football game started (which Terra was excited about). And a little later Keaton and I hit the little park in our complex.

He, of course found the rocks lying around to be as much fun as the equipment.

But he did spend a decent amount of time climbing said equipment and hitting the slide.

After playtime we headed to IHOP for dinner. Thats right, IHOP. It was actually pretty good. Would have been a little more peaceful if Keaton hadn’t been so tired.

All in all, a fun and not too stressful day. We do have much to be thankful for in regards to family, health, and Christ.

Here’s a gallery of all the pics for your perusal:

More bath-time chaos

So I’m giving my oldest a bath tonight. He’s gotten really good at doing the bath – I’m really not too worried about him drowning or hurting himself. I do get wet – but it’s mainly because he manages to sling water around when I’m the closest to him.

Since he’s so comfortable in the tub, I feel a little free to lighten up on how tightly I watch him. Not meaning I leave the room or I take my eyes off him – but I will allow myself to go to the bathroom (since the toilet is right there next to the tub) if I really have to.

(Hope this isn’t too crass for ya’ll out there – if it is, well…stop reading!)

Just some pics…

Okay, just playing around with some of the pic capabilities of WordPress here – and I figured no one out there would refuse a few more pics of my kids…

Me and muh boyz – yet again

My mother-in-law came into town this weekend. No, that’s not a joke or a punch-line, I’ve been blessed with an awesome mother-in-law. Being the loving, generous husband I am, I offered to watch both the boys this afternoon so they could go out shopping. Now that may sound a little crazy, but it wasn’t. At least until we shared a little of our desert with him – ice cream that is. Yeah, my wife had no problem giving him ice cream if I was taking care of him afterwards.

Things actually didn’t go that bad. We had to wake him up from a deep nap to go to lunch in the first place, so he was a little tired. The sugar burned out pretty quick. But he did have a few interesting moments.

Here’s a pic that’ll probably have me in trouble with my wife – but I couldn’t believe it when I saw him on top of the bouncy seat – on all fours!
