Some answers about context

Okay, if you didn’t guess it already, all those questions should have been answered in the negative. Every one of the examples was pulled out of context

Rev 11:10 – Um, definitely not a Christmas text. The people in this verse are giving gifts to celebrate killing the two Prophets of the Lord.

Psalms 79:1 – This is actually about the nations plundering Israel and the temple – not so christmasy…

Acts 20:24 – Paul is not talking about anything scholastic in this passage, he’s focusing on finishing what God has called him to.

1 Cor 10:13 – No justification for putting oneself in temptation’s way here, in the very next verse Paul tells the reader to “flee from idolatry”

1 Cor 15:51 – No, Paul didn’t have nurseries or little children in mind when he wrote this. He was talking about how we will be changed in the resurrection

Phil 3:2 – The dogs Paul is referring to here are people who mutilate the flesh – that would be circumcism.

The reason I posted these was just to illustrate how far from their context some verses can be “used”. Be careful how you quote the Bible and use its verses!

Giving the baby a cold one

“Do you want a cold one?” my wife asked my son. I quickly looked at her from the Budweiser commercial on the TV.

Of course she was talking about a teething ring, not beer. Context is everything…
