Beach pics….watch out!

Wow. Okay. Crazy times at the beach. If you haven’t been catching snippets of the action on my status updates on Facebook or on my Twitter feed, then here’s the best summary: I’ve barely gotten any sleep because of my kids – but I’m not going to work, so that’s okay! Lol. Yeh, being in a strange place is making my boys wake up even earlier than they usually do. But they’re starting to sleep longer and longer. But Keaton still pops out of his bedroom and flies up the hallway calling “Daaaadddddyyyyy!” whenever he wakes up. Ah well. 5:15 am was rough Tuesday morning, but it felt generous compared with the 4:20 am wakeup call Benjamin gave us on Wednesday morning. Today was 5:30, so that wasn’t so bad. We might actually make it to 6am tomorrow morning – but I’m not holding my breath.

Alrighty, here’s what everyone was really wanting – pictures! Actually, I know you really desire my witty comments that ornament them, so I have obliged:

Here we have Keaton’s first time out at the beach. It was evening, so he was a little tired. But I think he was more overwhelmed at first, because after he got used to it he perked up quite a bit…

He looks so sweet!

Okay, after he realized that the beach could be fun, he started having fun. Which primarily involved seashells flying through the air this first evening. That little splotch to the left of his upraised hand is a seashell – flying high!

Ain't I purdy...

Benjamin didn’t quite know what to make of things, and, as usual, his expressions were quite priceless.

What's going on here?

Yeh, Keaton was really enjoying himself. This is actually the third time he made it out to the beach. The second time was with my folks…so we didn’t take pics (and I’m not sure if they did…). But yeh, notice how “serious” his expression is…

Movin' fast - catch me if you can!!!

Such a serious lad. We gave him a hat to try and liven things up. Not quite sure if that worked…but at least he has something to keep the sun out of his eyes now…

With the hat he is the embodiment of cool.

I won’t say exactly who pointed out the remains of a shovel to Keaton. But He definitely found great pleasure in at least one specific part. This is absolutely the wisest toy one could hand over to a two-year-old.

Benjamin has been enjoying his time at the beach as well, but mainly as he’s been held in someone’s arms. Which is quite rough on the holder – the little linebacker weighs almost 25 lbs! But Papa was up to the task!

Keaton also had fun with his cousins. He absolutely loves Karis and is always asking about her. Here, he’s showing off his most awesome toy.

Here’s a close-up of Keaton’s hat. For some reason he fixated on Uncle Mark’s hat one of the first nights we were here. So Terra and I found him one his size when we went out shopping the next night. Now he has to have it in bed with him when he goes to sleep. Lol. Such a nutty kid. But it’s a robot hat – I don’t blame him for liking it so much!

Not that we need another picture of Keaton with his little bo staff, but as I looked at this one, I realized his stance was about perfect for a golf swing. Just what we need, a little red-headed golfer on the loose!

I’m sure I’ll have more pics to post tomorrow night. I haven’t even downloaded the ones from today… You can always check out my wife’s blog for more…

Scary Gary

It’s been awhile…but now I’m on vacation

yeh…I’ve been a bit of a slacker on here lately. I’ve been focusing most of my writing energies on my worship leading blog and also posting on my book reviews blog. Check ‘em out…heh heh heh.

But right now I’m actually on vacation…sleeping in…laying around, catching up on my reading….

yeh, not so much.

Since my boys never sleep past 6:30 am…so much for the sleeping in. But I did take a nap today…actually, Benjamin wouldn’t go to sleep for his nap, so I got him knocked out on my chest – and then I slep for awhile. Yeh, that was nice.

So maybe not really catching up on my sleep….not really catching up on my reading a whole lot….

But at least I’m not going to work. That’s always nice.

Son – where’s my belt?

No, Keaton wasn’t in trouble. Not exactly. When I got home last thursday I had changed into some shorts. That required me to remove my belt, which I put on a shelf in the exact same spot I always do. Keaton found the belt fascinating and picked it up.

“Keaton, let’s not play with that. Can you put it back for me?”

So he nods a cute little yes and I finish changing.

I wake up the next morning and…where was my belt?

I couldn’t find it anywhere!

As I finished getting ready for work after breakfast, Keaton watched an educational cartoon in the bedroom. I asked him, “Where did you put my belt.”

He looks at me, shakes his head, “No.”

Not good.

So I go to work without my belt.

(Terra actually got him to help her find it later – the little traitor…apparently he can’t help daddy…)
When Terra looks for it later, Keaton actually helps her (the little

My New Ride!

Yep, got me a new car this weekend. Well, almost new…16 years and 200k miles new. Heh, heh, heh. She may have been around the block a few (hundred thousand) times, but she still kicks like a newborn!

My new ride...needs a name...hmm...suggestions anyone?

A shout out to Ross Jenkins for trading my truck this little beaut. I know he’s going to have fun tinkering with the truck – but I still feel very blessed to have this car. She’s a manual, so the gas mileage is awesome, and I can stick the boys in the backseat if I have to.

On a funnier note, when I first got in to drive her, I kept positioning my arm to shift like I was in my truck and then I would miss the stick when I when to change gears. And now moving the stick is like moving a joystick, in the truck it’s almost like a lever (the stick is so long….). I shifted wrong the first couple of times because my motion was too big.

My ‘lil Pirate

We were just chillin’ at home today, enjoying the boys inside when Keaton started asking to be a pirate. Apparently Terra had been putting a bandanna on his head and telling him that made him a pirate. So out came the bandanna as well as the foam swords. And then emerged what I call the “Berserker Pirate style” of swordfighting:

As is quite obvious, he was on the path to losing his right to play with the sword for the day. After much wailing (and a wee bit ‘o discipline) his rather nutty side asserted itself. Somehow the Bandanna got turned around and he started bouncing around the living room…quite literally:

Quite a crazy little pirate, huh?

Um…sorry ’bout that son….but get in bed!

After putting Keaton to bed tonight, I had to mow the lawn. I caught him watching me from his window, but Terra and I had talked about it and decided it was okay for him to watch me mow. When I finished the backyard I told him to go back to bed and he said, “Bye!” and disappeared back into his room. I assumed he had gone back to bed.

Not so much. Apparently while I was mowing, Terra had to go in and discipline him three times. And when I came in, I thought I heard some sounds out of his room. I looked, and sure enough, his light was on and apparently, evidenced by the sounds and shadows emerging from the room, he was dancing around in there.

Well, I opened the door to have a little “talk” to him about obedience and bedtime. Opened the door – into his face. Oops. Major oops. So I held him, said I was sorry. Held him some more. Finally got him back into bed, tucked him in again, and reiterated that he was to stay in bed.

Wonder if he will? Wonder if he thinks I’ll hit him in the face if he doesn’t? That’s not how to shepherd your child’s heart….
