Tonight at small group Terra and I had childcare. Fun times. It’s always interesting trying to keep kids entertained for long periods of time. Luckily for us the house we meet at has a great little backyard to go out and play in. So out we went, running around and doing different games and stuff. I enjoyed my son’s “version” of everything. He’s just two years old and has his own little perspective on the world.
I was singing “Father Abraham” with a few of the older children, and he started prancing around, waving his sands half yelling, half singing “Sons! Sons!” while he waved his arms around. Terra and Erica (another adult helping us with childcare) found it highly hilarious.
But my favorite was his take on Monkey in the Middle. Erica had taken over to give me a break, and so she had all the kids out in the yard and was attempting a sort of “group” version of monkey in the middle, with most of the kids not quite clear on whether they were getting the ball or not – so they were all going for it. But the ball gets thrown to Keaton, and he snags it, turns and runs away…and launches the ball into the bushes. Apparently his version of “Keep Away” is him versus the world!
