Happy Thanksgiving to all you out there! This holiday season I am definitely very thankful for a wonderful and healthy family and all the blessings and joy they bring. But there is something I am infinitely more grateful for. Simply put, as I approach the Christmas season I am once again reminded that the peace Christ came to bring was not peace between man and his neighbors, though that is an outflow of it. No, the peace that Christ came to bring was peace between man and God.
I am thankful for the fact that, though I am a selfish, sinful man, I can have access to and a relationship with God through the person and work of Christ. I deserve nothing, yet I have received all.
I learned a family we are friends with recently left our church because the husband didn’t like being told what a sinner he was every Sunday. This saddens me, because I really feel he missed the point of what we rejoice over every Sunday. We rejoice in and celebrate the grace of God – but we can never truly appreciate that grace until we understand the depth and depravity of our sins.
People don’t like to be reminded of their sins because it reminds them of how much they need God. But as for me, I know how sinful I am, and therefore how much I need Christ. He is the reason I am infinitely grateful this holiday season.
