My latest Laptop saga

So my wife’s new(ish) laptop started really acting up. Like the touchpad was making the mouse be all jumpy and wacko, and then you had to slam the keys for it to detect them being pushed. If that sounds frustrating – yep, sure is. And there was the fact that it was no longer detecting the battery. AND when it was running it got so stinking hot on the bottom I was afraid to set it in my lap for fear of burning myself…painfully…

So I took it to Best Buy, because I definitely plan on getting my money’s worth out of the insurance plan I paid on the laptop when I first purchased it. Got my money out of the last one (I think I ended up with a new hard drive, wi-fi card, as well as screen with that one), and I figure I’ll at least get a new battery and maybe some other hardware on this one. So I take it in. Simple, right? They fix it, right?

Sucked in by Elf

Yeh, I’m ashamed to admit it, but as I’m chillin’ on the web I was flippin’ through the channels and without much on I landed on USA…and the movie “Elf”. I don’t really like this movie – but it does make me laugh. And now I’ve been sucked in…by the Elf-ness….

I”m such a sucker for a cheesey movie…

Our Thanksgiving Day

Well, thought I’d share what we did today – and, of course, include a few pictures (because I know that’s all you really care about…).

We started the day off with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But Keaton thought it would be good to make sure every one of his toys were out for him to play with:

Of course, he played with about three of them before starting to bring out books to read. That was fun. Eventually it got to be snack time and Keaton hauled his chair in front of the couch.

Shortly thereafter Terra and I decided we should try and finish off some of the cookie dough hanging out in the fridge. Keaton “helped”, though it quickly deteriorated to him squashing cookies in his hand and then stealing bits to eat. He never did get to enjoy the cookies because he wouldn’t eat his lunch.

After a nap to help with his mood, Keaton ate enough lunch to get mom’s approval for a teething biscuit. After lunch the football game started (which Terra was excited about). And a little later Keaton and I hit the little park in our complex.

He, of course found the rocks lying around to be as much fun as the equipment.

But he did spend a decent amount of time climbing said equipment and hitting the slide.

After playtime we headed to IHOP for dinner. Thats right, IHOP. It was actually pretty good. Would have been a little more peaceful if Keaton hadn’t been so tired.

All in all, a fun and not too stressful day. We do have much to be thankful for in regards to family, health, and Christ.

Here’s a gallery of all the pics for your perusal:

Thankful Thanksgivings

Happy Thanksgiving to all you out there! This holiday season I am definitely very thankful for a wonderful and healthy family and all the blessings and joy they bring. But there is something I am infinitely more grateful for. Simply put, as I approach the Christmas season I am once again reminded that the peace Christ came to bring was not peace between man and his neighbors, though that is an outflow of it. No, the peace that Christ came to bring was peace between man and God.

I am thankful for the fact that, though I am a selfish, sinful man, I can have access to and a relationship with God through the person and work of Christ. I deserve nothing, yet I have received all.

I learned a family we are friends with recently left our church because the husband didn’t like being told what a sinner he was every Sunday. This saddens me, because I really feel he missed the point of what we rejoice over every Sunday. We rejoice in and celebrate the grace of God – but we can never truly appreciate that grace until we understand the depth and depravity of our sins.

People don’t like to be reminded of their sins because it reminds them of how much they need God. But as for me, I know how sinful I am, and therefore how much I need Christ. He is the reason I am infinitely grateful this holiday season.

Obama is lookin for a church?

okay, this is quite interesting. Thanks to one of my friends who pointed this out in an email.  The article is here. It is mainly highlighting the fact that the Obama’s haven’t decided where they will be attending church in Washington D.C.

Hey, I know a few people from North Wake who are going to be planting a church in D.C. next year – wonder if the Obama’s would consider attending there… (no, that wasn’t sarcasm….not completely…)

Where’s my Knight Rider?!!!! Why Rosie?!!!!

okay, I’m just a little ticked. I must vent. Now.

NBC is kicking off Rosie’s variety show tonight. I could care less….except they bumped Knight Rider out of the lineup to do it!!!

Talking car vs. Rosie – it’s a no brainer in my mind.

Searching for Zach Jones

Looking at some of my stats for visits for this blog, and it’s really weird that over 90% of them come from Windows Live. I just found that interesting because on Google, if you do a search for “Zach Jones” you get a bunch of pages mainly dedicated to some football player of my name, as well as links to a musician and a comedian as well. It is on the second page that there shows up a link to my plaxo page, and it isn’t until the fifth page of the search on Google that you get a link to one of my blogs – and it’s the Linux.

Just to see what it pulled up, I did a search on Windows Live for “Zach Jones”. Pretty fun, actually…at least for me. The first two results were for my Linux blog, and the third was to my bio on this blog.

So, apparently, the people who search on Windows live find me way more interesting than a football player, a comedian and a musician. Or they just find me weirder.

Sarah Palin and Turkey Killing

Okay, I caught that some people were making a big deal out of Sarah Palin’s interview with some news network while Turkey’s are slaughtered in the background. What irritates me is that she really had limited control over the background of the shot. Sure she could have said something, but in the end it was the interviewer’s call as to what was in the background – not Palin.

It looked like the interviewer caught her while she was just chillin’ or walking around, and then the brilliant cameraman put the slaughtering machine in the background. I love that the guy working the maching looks like he’s waiting for them to move on at first, and then he just gets back to his job. I’ve posted the video below, but you can check out the comments on it here.

More bath-time chaos

So I’m giving my oldest a bath tonight. He’s gotten really good at doing the bath – I’m really not too worried about him drowning or hurting himself. I do get wet – but it’s mainly because he manages to sling water around when I’m the closest to him.

Since he’s so comfortable in the tub, I feel a little free to lighten up on how tightly I watch him. Not meaning I leave the room or I take my eyes off him – but I will allow myself to go to the bathroom (since the toilet is right there next to the tub) if I really have to.

(Hope this isn’t too crass for ya’ll out there – if it is, well…stop reading!)

New blog – Book Reviews

After reading books, I like to jot down my thoughts about them. On my old website I had labored and tried to organize them. Now, with WordPress, I just started a blog with them organized into Categories by genre, with the authors as tags (also any books part of a series are tagged by it also). WordPress does all the work and I get to just write my thoughts about the books I read.

I call the blog Been There, Read That – not completely creative, but close enough to what I’m doing there…

Note, that just like this blog, you can subscribe to an RSS feed based on categories (or genre, in the case of my book review blog). This way, in the review blog, you will only recieve the reviews I write for that specific genre.

Check it out and let me know what you think!
